quotes
"I didn’t know [Colin Powell] was still a Republican."
"I would say Rush Limbaugh is a true Republican."
a) How funny is it that DICK CHENEY is trying to call someone out on not being a true Republican, and
b) I’m seriously wondering if this guy has a personal goal of seeing his party burn, because everything he does seems to be counter the moderatism that the GOP needs at this point.
Big shock there. Cheney being a douche? Whoda thunk it?
No, true republicans slaughter babies, rape dogs, and punch old women in the face for using medicare. Also, true republicans are white, worship Jesus, and stomp faggots. Yup.
No, they marginalize/alienate faggots, like Obama did with his "anti-gay marriage" stance which is certainly based on religion, because it runs counter to logic..
Skinheads stomp faggots.
is that evil cristoph?
yeah
No shock, but honestly, how long is he going to keep this up. Does he think it’s somehow benefitting his party? Or maybe he’s just an angry old man who is voicing his opinions?

I want to punch him when I read his posts, but yeah I’d have a drink with EvilC based on his pic.
Back on topic… at Cheney.
(insert shooting friend in the face joke here)
Cheney’s a tool, he always has been….the man had a soul that was bought and paid for. It’s funny that he should lecture people how who is/isn’t republican after his last body of work.
what’s wrong with that statement?
colin is a turncoat to the party and rush is expressing the same views that they hold right now

ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER AMIRITE
no but colin did turn on the party. you can’t be in bed with the democrats and still consider yourself a republican, for better or for worse.
how is he a turncoat? He endorsed obama cuz mccain was shit. That just makes him a moderate republican.
if anything it makes him a leftist altogether. it is highly irresponsible to endorse a candidate other than your own party’s unless he is awful. mccain was qualified. he just lacked charisma.
Someone can endorse whomever they choose, and in doing so does not make one a turncoat.
In his judgement maybe he did believe McCain and by extension Palin were awful. But neither you nor I know for certain about that. We can only make guesses that his endorsement was in de facto a declaration that McCain/Palin were an awful choice.

i personally think he was just jockeying for a position in obama’s cabinet then got snubbed.
i think cheney’s criticism is fair. why shouldn’t he expect criticism in his own party for a move like that?
He can expect criticism, but I don’t hold Cheney’s criticism as holding any weight or significance. Especially considering this latest slavo from him just seems like a lot of last minute sour grapes bloviating.
There wasn’t much fundamentally different between McCain and Obama. Palin was a turnoff to moderates everywhere, that and McCain stay the course shit in Iraq.
You’re right, McCain should have lied about Iraq as well. Probably would have made a lot more sense politically to say we’ll be out in a year and then quietly move the deadline later on.

Bottom line, you cannot support Obama if you actually believe in anything the Republican Party is supposed to stand for. Obama is not a moderate.
Of course, it may be that you cannot support McCain either if you actually believe in anything the Republican Party is supposed to stand for… but in that case, just keep your mouth shut.

I think Cheney’s criticism would be fair if…
Cheney actually believed in traditional republican values.
On the other hand, I can’t blame Powell for thinking Palin was a potential disaster for the country.
But I don’t see how supporting Obama is supporting republican values either.
“The Republican Party is in deep trouble," he said, according to the Journal. “The party must realize that the country has changed. Americans do want to pay taxes for services. Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."
Powell is totally not a republican
Yeah, I’m so glad we didn’t end up with a vice president who is a complete doofus…

if democrats are suggesting the republicans should become more moderate, then they probably shouldn’t.
I think they mean stop with the Jesus rode a dinosaur nonsense or eggs equal people or dem terrorists are in my closet stuff.
maybe. it sounds to me though like the dems want the republican party to be nothing more than "democrat-lite." no thank you.

This hardline "you can’t support anything on the other side or it’s treachery to your side" bullshit position is getting really annoying. The irrationality of that kind of view would be hilarious if it wasn’t shared by so many others.

Hell, our current VP is Dan Quayle part deux.
The only thing more outrageous than biden’s mouth are his hair plugs. My god…
I didn’t say that. But look at Obama’s policies. You simply cannot support them and claim to be any kind of conservative. It’s not about party. It’s about ideas and basic principles.
What Obama’s governing philosophy boils down to is, it’s the government’s job to run people’s lives and meddle in their decisions, for some supposed greater good. You cannot be a conservative and agree with this, in any way. It is anathema to conservatism and to what this country was founded on, i.e. liberty, and economic liberty in particular.

Time’s are a changin’. 65% of americans approve of Obama, and so if the Republicans want to start winning elections again they have to shift to the left.
Every 1st world nation has a liberal evolution, and america is no different.

He is personally popular for now, but if you look at the popularity of his policy proposals they are far lower.

The republicans were saying the same thing after Bush won and they had a majority everywhere.
All the dems had to do was wait until the repubs got stupid and took the blame when the economy went down. It doesn’t take long for the wheel to turn these days.
Ding…. Obama is also already quite low on approval for a president just after 100 days.
April approval ratings in first year in office (Gallup)
Obama 56%
Bush 43, 2001 62%
Clinton, 1993 55%
Bush, 1989 58%
Reagan, 1981 67%
Carter, 1977 63%
Nixon, 1969 61%
Sampling error: +/-3% pts

he seems to be within the margin of error of the mean, more or less.

and bush 43 had a relatively quiet first 100 days compared to obama…
did bush have two wars a huge deficit and a badly sinking economy to deal with?
only because clinton dragging down the mean average so much…
