Secret Service has gotten much better since JFK. It would be incredibly difficult to accomplish an assassination nowadays.
I think the most difficult part of an assassination is wanting to come out alive after you pull the trigger.

I’d hate to see it happen, but any high-profile leader is a potential target. Even a very popular one. In the case of a polarizing figure, the likelihood could increase.

3 republicans and 1 democrat have been assassinated. So Obama’s chances are better, I suppose. But the last president I can think of that an attempt to assassinate wasn’t made was LBJ. So it’s a virtual certainty someone will attempt it. It would be ridiculous to assume it would be based on anything other than some mental case with a grudge against the world.

I do think his chances of getting shot are higher than any recent President’s, but I think his chances of not getting killed are the same as any other recent President’s.
he’s not going to be killed. there are a lot of things i find very shady about our govt but they would not let that happen because like someone said, that would definitely be the beginning of the end of america.

im not speculating a war but it would definitely hurt our moral image more than how bad it is already. i mean it would show that america has not changed much in the past 50 years thus i agree with whoever said it would set us back.
if the economy continues to worsen and something bad like an assassination happens then maybe their will be some tense riots or strong protests.

When I was in college I got within 15 feet of President Bush without having gone through a single Secret Service checkpoint, background check or metal detector.

It was because an acquaintance who worked on the campaign said "he’s with me guys" to the Secret Service and we walked right around the metal detector checkpoint.

At that moment I pretty much lost my faith in any US Government organization.
