I, personally, would welcome this idea. I dont want the government’s pennies, and freeing up the obligation of paying SS to people under 35 (when they retire) would alleviate a good chunk of the US debt burden. Not to mention the money saved from paying the government would be going straight into my 401k and ultimately yield much more in the long term.

Just needs to be patched for the baby boom generation. After that we’ll see a decline in SS. By 2020 8% more of the older population will be drawing on SS which is what we are looking at now. (8% is huge) After the baby boom, 2035~ we’re talking about a smaller population pulling SS.

SS is inherently flawed. If I work for 50 years and contribute to SS the entire time, then die at 65, I get none of that money back. yet someone who made a fraction of my salary and contributed for only 30 years may live to 80 and recieve 15 years worth of SS.

Thats why personal retirement plans are much better, it allows one put aside what they’re comfortable with, and pass it along to family if they dont make it.

As far as I’m aware, Obama is still a pro ‘civil-unions’ guy. It is my strong suspicion that this is a position adopted out of political necessity. In any event, that stance is forward progress, it’s simply moderated forward progress.

Younger generations are overwhelmingly more liberal on social issues. The GOP may feel free to adopt the notion that their way forward is to cling to the past on social issues, but I doubt it will do them much good in the long run. They may have a solid base of supporters on these issues, but as their voices grow louder, their numbers grow smaller.

So what they’re saying is, unless 3rd parties miraculously rise up to compete on the national level, we’re gonna have Democrat dominated government for decades to come.

Agreed, and I expect it will be a progression towards that totality. Some states will pass it earlier (presumably the very blue states) and some states will be holdouts, but social progress marches on.
I expect Utah will be one of the next to legalize the gays considering they are on the left coast.

It depends on how you frame it. During our modern times, every generation is becoming less religious than the last. I think the fact that their religion is becoming irrelevant to the public discourse is what has driven them to speak louder. That shout has a lasted a while, but sooner or later, the volume won’t be able to make up for the attrition.
Don’t expect the GOP of last week to be the same GOP in 2010 or 2012. The political parties in power today don’t stay that way by being inflexible and stupid. The policy statements of the people who led the GOP to failure this time around are almost certainly NOT going to be the actual policy of the next rounds of elections.

The only way gay marriage is passing is when judeges go against what the state population has voted for. Judges need to stop legislating from the bench.

Whether that’s true or not is irrelevant. The populations will begin voting the other direction shortly.
