on a scale of 1 to 10….

using the scale where would you rank all the candidates (barr, paul etc included)..and past presidents.

10 - politician with encyclopedic knowledge of issues current and historic
09 - politician very proficient with current and historic issues
08 - politician equally good with current and historic issues
07 - politician with good knowledge of current issues..not so good with historic
06 - politician with much better knowledge of the issues

05 - politician with reasonable knowledge of the issue
04 - politician with basic general knowledge of the issues
03 - citizen with very basic knowledge of the issues
02 - citizen with low familiarity with current issues
01 - 3rd shift cranberry silo guard who’s semi retarded but knows who the president is.

so far IMO palin’s exhibited a rating of 2 (and thats being generous considering her performance with couric)..BUT with her bar being set so low if she performs at a 4 it will be considered a success and probably a tie..

IMO any person running for pres or vp should be ranking at 7 or better period.

I would rate Obama at an 8
mccain at 7 (confusing shia and sunni and spain for latin america doesn’t help)
biden (would be higher if he didnt have foot-in-mouth disease) at 7

She would have to hold her own on the important issues (financial crisis, iraq, iran) to have a sliver of a chance, and I just can’t see that happening against someone like Joe Biden.

$20 says she has to "go home to her daughter’s wedding" or some other BS that gets her out of the debate at the last minute

Or maybe has a tragic case of bronchitus that makes her lose her voice

edit: what if she’s been dumbing down? I figure she’s had to have debated before; if she was bad that would have been a red light for the selection comittee, right?

but at this point I don’t think that’s an excuse because even is she pulls a 4/10.. it won’t erase the other ridicule she’s drawn. It won’t silence her critics, and rightfully so.

She could conceivably pop a 6/10 max.

I see her doing fair, maybe 5/10 and Biden probably 7/10. Same thing will happen as the last debate. Republicans will declare it a home run, democrats will say Biden won on points, and the most important group…voters will slowly drift towards Obama.
I listen to Palin and I know that I’m smarter than she is, and that’s scary.
This isn’t a high school grading system of whether or not she performs well to achieve a grade. She must BEAT Joe Biden to take charge of one of the biggest roles in U.S. government.

if she did a 6..I would declare her the victor…

now you know palin is not a fuckin 4… we’re talking foriegn and domestic issues here..all that woman knows and CARES to know is whats going on in alaska..otherwise she wouldn’t be giving boilerplate/catchphrases for answers.
No way in hell that Palin can look better than Biden in a debate.

A success for her would be showing her differences in opinions with the democrats and make sure they match the views of the republican party.

I’m honestly not just being a dick because I don’t like her, but I’d say she’s capable of pulling off a 2 or maybe a 3 with enough coaching, and she needs a 4 or higher for people to be ‘impressed with her’. Which is sad. I’d say everyone else running is at least at a 7 or so and needs to hit at least that number.

The republicans may have figured something out with the Bush campaign… put someone in there that everyone expects to be a 100% monkey, teach them to clap and throw a ball, and people come away impressed. Both Kerry and Gore blew Bush away in their debates, and people came away saying "Wow, bush held his own much better than expected."

I feel the same way.
At this point, if she doesn’t shit from her mouth, the media will paint it a success.

They’ll play their gotcha games. Shitting from her mouth? they would spin it "See, she really is full of shit." Fucking liberal media.

And if she only shits from her mouth a little bit, the token OT neocons will paint her a success.

That’s ok because the neocons on here would just convince us that she’s now a better candidate because she’s no longer full of shit like the rest of them who haven’t yet shit from their mouths.

The bar has been set exceedingly low, so she basically just has to avoid drooling on the podium to get a good grade on this.
If she’s as stupid as she’s been made out to be and Biden is so great at debating, then unless he just literally knocks her back on her ass, she’s going to come out good.

If no one can come up with a snappy one liner that stands out, then the whole thing is a wash. It’s not the substance that is talked about ad nauseum, it’s the quick jab, the funny "gotchya", or the one timeless sentence that is remembered and actually makes any difference.

If neither does any of them, then it’s the "typical sackriders saying their person won" bullshit.

People watch these things not for hearing the same shit repeated over and over that’s been stated repeatedly over the last year. We watch it like we watch a nascar race, we want that one zinger moment or massive crash.
