Wow, that’s not racist or anything
It’s true, but I don’t think a political candidate should drop a Dunkin Donuts of 7-11 joke.
what’s racist about that?
|
cnt hear… at wrk.
what are we thinking? |
sorry bro, i got you covered
"You cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian Accent."
says it to some brown guy
yay! lets make fun of the one group of people that are actually investing their money into our economy rather than taking it away!
he’s right… new immigrants (in this case, the indians) take all the shit jobs… ie dunkin donuts, 7-11
how is that racist?
yeah it’s pretty boneheaded of him. If he would have said some sort of disgusting asian remark, I would have told the dozens of us voting to not vote.
He was walking down the hall, introduced to an Indian American Constituent and that’s he started talking about how you can’t walk into a dunkin donuts or 7-11 without having some type of Indian accent. And then when his aids start to drag him away to save him from himself, he proclaims "I’m not kidding!"
Yes, that’s racist.
It’s just like he said "You know Delaware has a lot of black people in our district. Our watermellon and koolaide sales are highest in the country!! I’m not kidding!"
racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
joe biden is saying there are a lot of immigrant indians in deleware.
404 racism not found.
never seen anybody but white people at dunkin donuts
|

how is that racists? |
Ok, you don’t see the racism there…..how about talking about Obama and be just in abject SHOCK that there is a "clean, articulate, well spoken" black man….AND he’s running for president. "That’s just a storybook right there" as he said
|

What? He didn’t even get the joke right (why the fuck would you need an indian accent to walk into a dunkin’ donuts? ) and it’s a total fucking stereotype.
ya they’re now going to send their money back to India because a politician made highly offensive remarks about their career choices
|

Oh, well there you go. He was completely bumfuzzled by the fact that there was an african american that can speak without ending things with "izzle", bathes, smells nice, etc
your analogy makes no sense, african immigrants have little in common with native-born black americans.
God damn people need to lighten up, not everything has to be 100% pc all the time
You’re right, he’s not racist at all…..he just thinks anyone with dark skin should be living in a ghetto and is a storybook when you see one of "them" in a nice neighborhood and they’re not holding people up
what biden said wasn’t in good taste, but there’s nothing racist about it.
I’m surprised Fox News hasn’t jumped all over this and made up a bunch of BS about how Biden is a white supremacist.
wtf are you even babbling about?
I absolutely LOVE Obama for picking Biden as his running mate. These next couple of months are going to be so incredibly awesome
I concur, but at the same time a little fairness would be nice. If Imus said that shit he’d be out on his ass before he finished saying seven-eleven.
why do that when they still got the Osama Bin Laden controversy? They don’t want legitimate stories.
as if Palin isn’t more of a disaster

bro, you’re too smart for OT
just leave now
You said it’s not racist because Obama isn’t an actual african immigrant or something retarded like that
She’s a brilliant choice. She’s the anti-Cheney

Thank you.
lmao. she’s a clusterfuck of a VP candidate yo
no, obama’s got nothing to do with this. you tried to tie black-americans into this when they aren’t immigrants, which would take everything biden said out of context. you fail at life, drown in a bucket of aids.
The only people who would take that as a racist remark are people that think it’s a shitty job. Most of the 7-11 owners around here are in fact Indian/Middle Eastern but they also own the store. Who gives a fuck if someone said a lot of Indians work at Dunkin Donuts.
On the other hand calling black women nappy headed hoes is not even remotely similar.

AIDS can drag you away?
it’s a worse disease than I thought
I am half-Indian and I don’t see how that’s racist. Yeah, most 7-11s and dunkin donuts are run by Indians. So what? He isn’t looking down on them for running a small business. He is saying they run small businesses and they are an important part of Delaware.
we all immigrants.
What?? Obama has everything to do with this….Biden’s quote was about Obama. How the fuck are you this retarded??
I remember him saying that.
Seriously though….you can’t.
yeah, like the pro-abstinence woman’s unmarried 17 year old daughter getting knocked up isn’t hilarious or anything
biden’s quote was about indian-american immigrants being the fastest growing population in deleware you tard carnival.

Are any of the republicans in this thread Indian? If an Indian was offended by Biden’s statement, I would understand. If you are not, WTF BRO?
I bet it sucks to be Lancer’s brother.
I’m talking about Biden’s quote about Obama being "clean, and articulate"
|

Well said.
you got it backwards.
It’s not like it makes Biden any less funny
what does that have to do with the first post?
Palin’s soap opera is going to be a lot more entertaining than a Biden quote that might be able to be taken the wrong way.
it’s comparable to saying "you can’t go in a fried chicken joint without being black"
Being intimately familiar with Biden, I’m betting there are many more to come.
But yes…the Palin situation is great.
and that’s not racist
1. You said Biden wasn’t being racist
2. I showed you how Biden is being racist
3. You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?
|

biden wasn’t being racist when he made that indian-american comment and that’s what i’ve been talking about this whole time. you’re trying to drag something completely different into it to prove that he IS a racist. we’re not arguing about the same thing, sorry for the confusion.
So what?
The fucking Dunkin Donuts and 7/11s ARE filled with Indian owners. It’s not like he said "we’re getting a bunch of Indian immigrants, better start opening more 7/11s quick! lolol" That would be implying that, because of their race, they will end up working at one.
But to say that the 7/11s and Dunkin Donuts are now primarily owned by Indian-Americans is just a statement of demographics. It’s true.
It’s comparable to saying "these tuition assistance programs have worked well, you can’t go to a college in DE that doesn’t have students benefiting from the program these days." Both are just a statement of actual trends.
sounds like a pretty stupid, but otherwise benign gaff on biden’s part. and it’s almost a year and a half old, don’t try to make it more than what it is.
WOAH…. 4 tons of vaseline spilled on that slope… making it quite slippery
|
1. You said Biden wasn’t being racist
2. I showed you how Biden is being racist 3. You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? |
maybe watch it again without your crazy ass bias?
How is he racist?
Here I am, someone of Indian descent, half-Indian, and I don’t think that’s racist. If he said you can’t go to an ER without running into an Indian doctor, would that be racist? Then how is a similar comment talking about another well-compensated profession (small-business owner) which is true, racist?
He never said Indians as a group are worse than Whites or Blacks or whoever else for owning 7-11s and dunkin donuts. That would have been racist. He didn’t subjugate one group to another group’s whim, nor did he put down a group. I fail to see the racism.
Are you Indian?
Biden > palin

Almost as bad as mark warner (?) of VA calling a dot indian reporter a ‘malacca’.

Families should not be a package deal for politicians. You can’t always control your kids to be who you want them to be. I could give two fucks if she can’t control her 17 year old daughter. It’s not even comparable to anything in politics.
People who even find this as news worthy are the same morons that swoon over the next pictures of some celebrities crotch as they get out of the car.

she wants to make abortion illegal because she honestly believes that she can convince people to abstain from sex. she can’t convince her own fucking DAUGHTER to abstain from sex.
I knew she was pro life I didn’t know the latter part

dot…. look at Reagans son..
it’s gonna be awesome when her daughter has a "miscarriage"
ROLIPOLIZ - Well… here’s the thing - the rules of engagement in the parthenon of American politics is:
1 - You’ll have living hell to pay if you say anything that could be construed as a slight against Blacks or Hispanics BUT
2 - You have carte blanche to say ANYTHING about asians and indians, because nobody ever believes that they’re offended, or cares if they’re offended. That’s the price of success.
Yeah, let’s tell other people what to do, but we don’t do it ourselves. We are the royal family; we are exempt.
the whole nation will be by her trailer trash side to comfort
the pro-abstinence part or the daughter pregnant part?
her stance on abortion = make people not fuck.

I just knew she was pro life and I knew her daughter was pregnant
Republicans are clutching at straws now. They know they lost the election.
According to CNN, in 2006 Palin was a "firm supporter of abstinence-only education in schools." "Explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," Palin wrote.
Not racist
That’s like saying "you can’t walk into a welfare office unless you have a slightly black skin"
Stereotypes generally form from frequent observations. So while I always do my best to avoid them, yes…there is often truth burried somewhere in many stereotypes.
That said, he wasn’t stereotyping. He was stating an actual observation. I can’t think of a single Dunkin Donuts or 7/11 in New Castle, and the Newark/Hockessin area that isn’t owned by an Indian-American family. That’s not because I think that Indians are only good for working in 7/11s, but because I’ve been to them and seen they are owned by Indian-Americans.
fuck her and anyone who believes that bullshit is how kids will be able deal with their sexuality in the right way.
OOPS
sex is evil, and you shouldn’t do it. ever. unless you’re married and trying to create a child. sex destroys lives.

I might be the first guy on OT to even use the phrase carte blanche
I know, it’s so kafkaesque

Why does people have to view everything that happens as a us vs them?? I do not support Biden in any way, but he said absolutely nothing wrong…
For starters last I checked, the polls are dead even, in spite of the DNC just ending…
Anyways, if a Democrats 17 year old daugher had a kid, you would be saying how it was nobody’s business…. If Bush made the comment Biden did, "omg ignorance lolzlolzolz!1!"
Yet we find you doing this…. sigh…
That’s so hot. If I were gay, I would totally make out with you right now.
I really don’t know how fucking retarded you have to be to think that preaching abstinance is going to keep kids from sexually exploring.
It’s asinine. There are literally 13 year olds (and probably younger) having sex. It’s fucking ridiculous, and most of these religious "preach sex in marriage only" types are so naive as to how these kids actually think and act.
Now it’s 59

You are right. I shouldn’t get carried away with today’s events. I tried to be fair my first couple of months on OT, but then I saw it had no effect on the others, so I kinda gave up. I even tried that today in the Palin thread, that I was laughing more at the OT republicans about the Palin incident than at her or her daughter (who I think shouldn’t be dragged into this mess), but I guess arguing with Republicans for like five hours straight caught up to me. Thanks for setting me straight though. You are a smart and fair man, and I mean that.

After 3 years I still haven’t given up.
I’ve found that, even on a forum like this that is steeped in ignorance and assumptions, keeping an open mind to all sides and discussing rather than arguing works a hell of a lot better than the "fuck you, are you kidding me? You can’t be stupid enough to actually believe this " approach.
When you find yourself talking with someone else with at least a bit of sense, works pretty well.
I can’t stand how often one argument is rebutted with "but the libtards did this" or "but bush/conservatives did that". If everyone was forced to argument in a legitimate debate form, 90% of everyone wouldn’t have anything to say.
|

I’m not saying I don’t let loose with a little trolling every now and then. I mean, hell, it’s the internet. Can’t take it seriously ALL the time.
But I actually have had some very informed, very educational discussions with some OTers.

It takes a big man to admit an error.
I know where you’re coming from with frustration in trying to be fair on OT, and I know for certain there are many who will say I am not fair…. and there are times I probably haven’t been. It can often be tempting to strap on your party’s jersey and see which side can yell louder. Since the 06 elections at least, I have done my best in moving to posting only in ideological political threads and to avoid the "story of the week" personal threads.
I’ve generally resigned myself to understanding that the majority of posters in threads like these are part of the see who can yell louder crew and are impervious to anything I could say. I do prefer more ideological level political threads, but have not posted in DIACF more than a handful of times since 02… mainly because the partisan hacks who post in there are no better than the story of the week crew. Don’t know where I’m going with this, but it is good to see that there are people who can see past the usual headline news, even if they lose sight of it from time to time.
don’t toot your own horn there, pal
