Go ahead throw the dice with Obama. Remember if he screws up at all, the economy is going to take the hit. Possibility of major pain for everyone. I can live with it.
Go with McCain and we’re assured prosperity. It’s fail proof.

The electorate has very probably decided that Obama will win. The mass media surely has. That is the definitive reason why gas prices have skyrocketed. The market is anticipating a slow period with Obama’s OJT.

define fail proof? i’ve yet to see mccain display any form of competence.
i mean christ, he’s just an old man reading lines off a teleprompter.
holy shit, i just jizzed all over my keyboard. obama fucking owns. i cant wait for him to annihilate mccain over the next few months.
that’s right, blame obama. might as well start early; as it will become a reoccurring theme.
if the market is anticipating an economic slowdown due to obama, then gas prices should be dropping not skyrocketing
about time for a CHANGE, i think they’re tired of 8 years blaming Clinton
Google it.
Whereas his opponent is… a young man reading lines off a teleprompter?
Commodities like oil go way up when the economy and consumer confidence is low.
Frankly, I don’t know how much petrol would be saved in this ideal situation where everyone inflated their tires (we’d save more if everyone OVERinflated their tires, but I’ll leave that aside).
But the problem I have with Obama’s statement is that it shows his innate attitude that regular people are stupid and don’t know what’s good for them. AAA, tire stores, and everybody else has been telling people to properly inflate their tires for decades. The fact is, people who didn’t pay much attention this kind of stuff in the past are doing so now because of the price of fuel. They’re driving less and looking for any way to save a bit of fuel when they do drive somewhere (enter the hypermilers). That is why demand has gone down.
And it all happened without the government forcing anybody to do anything. All hail the free market.
I think that is the point being made by the people passing out tire gauges. Obama seems to be under the impression that he is telling us some shit that most of us don’t already know.

3 - 4% IIRC
How is he assuming the average person is stupid by answering a direct question about how an individual can reduce their gas usage? I don’t get it.

:huntz0r:
yea but obamas reading stuff he actually wrote. do you think mccain is sitting there writing his speeches?
David Axelrod writes Obama’s speeches.

I don’t see a question being asked there. I see the great and wise Obama telling me something he thinks I don’t already know. And why, pray tell, can we not make sure our tires are inflated properly AND drill for more oil? I mean, if we did that, we’d get double the benefit!

You should probably ask that to your boy McCain who seems hell bent to mock the idea of inflating your tires to the proper level. Shouldn’t he be embracing that on top of his other ideas? You know, instead of trying to turn it into a joke.

He is running against regular people?
McCain isn’t my "boy," and I don’t see him saying that the assertion is wrong, just that it’s ridiculous to say we don’t need to drill for oil because we can just add air to our tires instead.
wut?
The topic is a speech in which Obama blasts his opponent. You point out that he seems to like bashing regular people.
Ergo you think he is running against regular people?

That makes absolutely no sense.
What I think is that he is condescending. I don’t think that needs any further explanation or analogy.
And the assertion that Obama’s energy plan only involves proper maintenance of our vehicles is even further from the truth.
The difference is that, apparently, Obama wasn’t joking.
Also, his energy plan is first and foremost centered around conservation as a solution, while not doing much if anything to increase the overall domestic oil or electricity supply. That much is true.
The tire pressure thing is just a sort of microcosm of this attitude, which makes it a good target for ridicule.
Obama’s energy plan is extremely optimistic. I don’t even believe half of what he says can be done.
I don’t believe a lot of what he says can be done feasibly. It will probably take a lot more energy and money to get little results.
What is lacking in Obama’s plans was clean burning coal, nuclear power, and drilling.

I agree; it makes no sense. However it certainly does need further explanation. As it stands right now, you seem to be confusing one for the other.
In other words: pointing out the ignorance of McCain’s campaign is hardly being condescending to ordinary people.
why would it?
low confidence will lead to lower demands

Obama’s plan places a lot more emphasis on future energy usage. It seems to me he understands that the days of cheap energy are over and that simply trying to boost domestic production of current popular energy sources is only prolonging the problem. We need to focus on new sources and build the infrastructure to utilize those sources.
Besides, he specifically addressed the issue of nuclear power and has come out in favor of further exploration and use of nuclear power.
1:15 in the vid, he states his position on nuclear power pretty specifically.
i dont think he said we dont need to drill for oil but that proper car maintainance gived much quicker results than drilling for oil will produce. Mccain talks as if if we start drilling today prices will go down tomorrow..
where does he get that this would reduce oil use by 3-4%?
gasoline use perhaps but, we are dependent on petroleum for so much more than gas
^^ uh-oh
I suspect someone is wondering just how ‘hard’ the Humungus got….?
j/k
….kinda
yea, but he looks so much more spritely doing it!
Run, Hu, RUN!!!!
you think I can’t defend myself against one measly little bearlover?
In for surprise buttsecks.
Match-up probably looks like:
Humungus _______ vs. contender
I think the 3-4% is per person. Multiply that by the amount of people who have underinflated tires and are willing to maintain their cars to find out the national savings.
3.5%*(#vehicles with underinflated tires and poor maintenance - #lazy owners of vehicles with underinflated tires and poor maintenance and dont care) = ???
Who wants to guess the % of people that "don’t maintain their vehicles properly" will actually "start maintaining their vehicle properly"?
Pretty good fuckin’ speech.
Can’t say I disagree.

Didn’t they same thing about the last president?
Wouldn’t a continuation of failed policies mean continued failing?
I don’t think I am talking about what you think I am talking about.
In other words: what Obama said in the first place was condescending, not what he said in the video at the top of this thread (that’s more just missing the point).
Anything is possible.
everybody already knows about the fact that you can conserve fuel by inflating your tires… the president is supposed to be a leader not a repeater
