CNN reported today that Colin Powell has denied that he will endorse Obama and says that he won’t go to thier convention. The reporter at Fox News, who broke the story, is continuing to say Powell will continue to ostensibly support Obama.
It seems to me that certain Obama supporters are begging for Powell’s endorsement.
he’s a well respected military general, who wouldn’t want his opinion?

Former Bush Administration Secretary of State Colin Powell said this morning that he has met twice with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to provide foreign policy advice.
"I’ve been around this town a long time and I know everybody who is running for office. And I make myself available to talk about foreign policy matters and military matters with whoever wishes to chat with me," Powell said on NBC’s "Meet the Press."
Powell demurred when host Tim Russert asked whether he would support the Republican nominee for president in 2008.
"I’m going to support the best person that I can find who will lead this country for the eight years beginning in January of 2009," Powell said.
In addition to serving in George W. Bush’s cabinet, Powell also served in the administration of Bush’s father, as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Why would Obama listen and extensively consult with someone who is and has been one of the biggest high-level supporters of the Iraq war?
|
“We all talk to people who talk to people and there are people close to the Obama campaign in the course of conversations who made clear to me that there was very high level discussions. … The Obama people expect Powell to endorse him,” [Bill] Kristol told FOX News…“This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama,” Kristol said… |
Rest of article:
If Obama’s top campaign officials are desperate for Powell’s endorsement, it shows that Obama really is severely deficient in military leadership skills and experience.
With the full-scale invasion of Russian troops in Georgia now, I cannot possibly see why people would want to risk the whole fifty states of the U.S. to a man who is on his knees like this.
He supports it, which is why he resigned from SoS because he was fed falsified information that made him to believe that war with Iraq was necessary?
And plus, you’re taking an opinion from fox news on anything about politics seriously? See how the chips lie, but don’t believe the person stealing from the pot.
Yes, that is the story of how Powell got fired from the Secretary of state position, but that’s a whole different topic.
Let’s focus only on Obama seeking Powell’s endorsement:

Look for yourself at how Obama and his chief campaign workers have convinced their supporters:
Since this thread is obviously about how a black person should support other black people:
Polls indicate that 92% blacks will vote for Obama. 2% blacks will vote for McCain.
Evangelical McSame supporters are praying for rain. Do you have something against religion?

Through a narrow lens, you could look at it that way. But I’ve been researching this debate for well over an hour now, and nobody has made a comment like that. And it didn’t once enter my mind until I looked at your post.
Getting back onto the question at hand, even Tom Brokaw, while interviewing Barack Obama, was quite overt about it in his question:

I think it’s fair to say the conventional political wisdom in this country is that you need a vice-presidential candidate, who has very good national security credentials. Is that your number one criteria? |
Here is this interview with Obama on MSNBC:

what a fucking idiot. criteria is plural, the word he was looking for is criterion.
You’re obviously spring-loaded, looking for the tiniest mistake, grammar, or spelling error in my argument. What does that show about your support of Obama? Desperation maybe?
Nobody says it, but it is on their minds. People are afraid to bring up the topic of race, but it is a factor. What do these 2 people have in common?
There is no reason for Colin Powell to endorse someone whose beliefs are on the opposite side of the political spectrum. Lets not forget that Obama’s history is borderline socialist.
Don’t mind Rory. He’s just angry that he knows so much about politics, but can’t vote….

They’re tired off the BS that the current admin spewed?
wat
True, but the election will be for two new administrations. As much as McCain may be similar now, he may go back to his centrist ways once elected. It seems that he will say anything to get elected, which is why he keeps contradicting himself. Furthermore, Dick and Bush will be out of the white house in a few months.
Also, just because you dont support one candidate, doesn’t mean that you support his opponent. Powell may or may not support McCain, I dont know. If he wants Obama over McCain, it still doesn’t justify his public endorsement. You don’t endorse someone that you disagree with on the issues, or you lose your credibility.
I think Powell is done with politics, I think the War in Iraq left him with a very bitter taste in his mouth
a nigga supporting another nigga would not suprise me
Colin Powell is definitely not a nigga
I think he is a lying sack of shit. Remember who made that presentation to the UN with the pictures of the "mobile chemical weapon labs" as a justification for invading Iraq? Sorry, as far as I am concerned, he is just as culpable in spreading Bush’s lies that got us into this war as the rest of the President’s high level minions and I hope that one day, he is held accountable for that in a court of law. In the US or in an international court.
Just like the democrats in congress who voted for the military authorization. Do they get a free pass as well?
The more I read what you post, the more I see what a piece of garbage you are.
only stating facts…is nigga such an offensive words? i hear it all fucking day
they are always calling themselves nigga so what is the difference
in NYC nigga is like the word google, probably second most common word
God, that would ROCK if Powell supported Obama.
I think Colin Powell has amazing influence among Americans. I think most people approve of the job he’s done for America.

I don’t hear it all day long. And when I do hear it, I do not accept it as an appropriate word. I find that word to be offensive, divisive, hateful and ignorant. Regardless of the cultural background/context of the person saying it I might add.
But that’s just me.

OMG! An image of overt homosexuality! If you could ever look beyond your own ignorance, you might discover that the one who posts with that AV is one of the more articulate posters on this site.

you must be confusing Obama with the slew of Republican senators who publically denounce the gays and then get caught doing their own foot-tapping.
It’s usually the ones who scream anti-gay rhetoric the most (like you, for instance) who are more likely to get caught on their knees, gobbling on cock.

So if I say I hear people calling Jews names all day…it would okay if I use it all the time?
With your logic, every single person who didn’t realize that the intel provided was false, should be held liable. I wouldn’t bash him for doing his job, especially after bad intel was provided.
I assume he is a great leader, but I don’t know that for sure. The media loves him.

Are you saying there is no difference between the Secretary of State and the average Joe on the street?
So if it were I, Mr. Nobody, giving that same presentation to the UN, I would have the same credibility as one of the most senior people in the administration?
Sorry, but either Powell was set up as a patsy or he went along with the lies. Either way, he needs to publicly answer for his role in the matter.
you misinterpreted what I said.
Basically I stated that you cant always trust the media. Just because they like someone, doesn’t mean that person is good or bad at their job.
You can’t please all the people all the time. A perfect example of that is Powell. All the criticism against him is just 20/20 hindsight. But let’s not continually go back to debate the start of the Iraq war. I just wanted to point out that even a person with Powell’s obvious great character and leadership can be pulled down to where, for that reason maybe, he won’t run for president. That is one big reason we don’t find him or others with great character to lead us and are stuck with such lesser choices like McCain and Obama.
People often say politicians should not give themselves raises. They should. The so-so pay they get is another reason why our leaders are of poor quality.
I dont think giving anyone the ability to give themself a raise is a great idea.
Also I think they should be forced to work at least a certain amount of days to hold their position in office.
Allowing employees to set their own pay and take off as many days as they like isnt good.
People today want plastic politicians. People with no character, and shit basically doesn’t stick to them. They most assuredly don’t try to find people of character with a consistent history. That’s why Obama will likely win…he’s more plastic.
