I would GLADLY do almost anything to 1% of the group to help the other 99%. And heres the kicker, if we tax them more, lets say its a few more percent…they pay a lot more, right? Hundreds of thousands more in some cases.

If you make 300,000 dollars a year, and pay lets say 125,000 a year in taxes…then it goes up to 140,000…if that adversely affects how you live, you should shoot yourself.

Now scale that up to HUGE rich people, talking MILLIONS per year. If it affects how THEY live, they shouldn’t be that wealthy.

Scale it down to the poor folk, and any percent of tax they don’t pay helps them a little.

Do you not understand that smart people have investments that are laid out over a period of time? Their planning has been based off of the current tax brackets. If you raise these brackets, you ruin their initial calculations. Which could, in effect, cause them to lose their investments.

Let me give you an example. Someone is buying a house for $200,000 and they have budgeted their paycheck to be able to pay that. If their paycheck is now 10-15% smaller, the bank doesn’t tell them, "It’s OK, we know that taxes have increased and you can’t make the payment." They tell them to fuck off and foreclose your house.

The only people that the Obama plans are going to help are the losers that have no investments and little income. Anyone successful in America (read: good people) is going to get the shaft.

Not sure what country you’re from, but we don’t pay 39% taxes in the USA. We don’t even have a flat tax in the USA, we use tax brackets.

please also keep in mind that that 1% is responsible for 95% of the jobs. If they get taxed more you can bet they are not just going to say "its cool, i didnt need those extra millions" they are going to cut jobs in their companies or pull money from their investments which will in turn cut jobs from whatever they were invested in.

Me having a stable secure well paying job is much more important to me than an extra $50 in my paycheck, and its damn sure more important to me than whatever that waitress is making.

Now we have idiots who buy everything on credit because they have to have the best to show off, then when they fail to make the payments, it gets repoed and their credit goes to shit. THEY are to blame, no one else.
I don’t NEED a BMW, I don’t NEED a 60" plasma, I don’t NEED a 3000 sqft. house. I can go out and buy every one of those with cash today if I wanted but I don’t NEED to, I am just fine with what I have now.

As for selfish, depends. If my neighbor busts his ass, lives within his means, responsible for his his own stuff and something unfortunate happens, then I will gladly VOLUNTEER to help him out and get back on his feet.
BUT….
If that neighbor is a moron who lived beyond his means, got loans for a house and car he couldn’t afford and lost them because he was an idiot when it came to managing money, then I’m not going to help at all.
