Obama Opens the Door to Offshore Drilling

ORLANDO, Fla. — Sen. Barack Obama suggested he could accept an expansion of offshore oil drilling today if it is in a broader package of energy measures that would free the logjam on energy bills in Congress.

Why is it that you love oil so much and want to push so hard to bring in more oil? I don’t see you pushing for alternative energy research and merely state "nuclear is the answer" when it’s plainly clear that it isn’t. So what are you planning on doing when you’ve been pushing oil so hard and it turns out that we won’t have a drop of oil for 10-15 years? If we’d stop subsidizing damn corn and ethanol so much, maybe alternative energy would move a little faster. The oil boom will give Iraq a surplus of nearly $80 billion (42 billion) by the end of this year, a US agency has concluded, raising the political pressure for a cut in American spending to help the country to recover.
High oil prices will soon give the Iraqi Government a pot of $79 billion in unspent funds, the US’s Government Accountability Office (GAO) projects in a new report to Congress. It adds that nearly $10 billion has been sitting in a US bank in New York because the Iraqi Government has been so slow in spending funds on reconstruction.
