"In the coal country of Castlewood, VA on Saturday, Biden said that instead of John McCain’s tax breaks for oil companies, the United States should be investing billions in clean coal technology. “We have enough coal to meet our needs domestically for the better part of the next 100 200 years,” Biden said. “That can free us from being dependent on foreign oil countries and at the same time not ruin the environment.”
But on the rope line after an event in Maumee, OH last week, Biden told an environmental activist who questioned why coal is necessary given clean, effective alternatives like wind and solar, “we’re not supporting clean coal.”
Biden continued that we should develop the technology here and sell it to places like China — which are building 2 coal fired plants a week and polluting their air and ours — but that we shouldn’t build any more plants in the United States. “No coal plants in America,” he said."
what? so burning coal in China is better than burning it in America?
Uh, Obama has said NUMEROUS times that he supports a broad-based energy solution, INCLUDING clean coal and limited domestic oil. Looks like him and Biden need to get their stories straight.

He didn’t say ‘There are no coal plants in America’. He said ‘NO COAL PLANTS HERE IN AMERICA!’ Similar to when someone says ‘NO WAR FOR OIL’, does it mean that they are saying there is no war for oil?

he said they don’t support clean coal, and that he didn’t want to build any more coal plants in america. then his campaign tried to spin it to cover his ass, but i don’t know how you can spin him flat out saying, (actually, this is biden, so…) yelling "we’re not supporting clean coal!" (while sticking his finger in her chest).
Hardcore environmentalists hate "clean coal" even more than they hate nuclear power. Good luck with that.

Coal and coal gases that are processed to remove sulfur dioxide, capture carbon dioxide, and other chemicals. It really is not energy efficient.
Coal where the exhaust from the coal combustion is scrubbed of NoX & SoX (primarily, but there are other contaminants removed) and then released. The enviros hate it because it still dumps CO2.
CO2 capture and sequestering is another mess entirely.

considering that over half the country’s power comes from coal, it’s going to be around for awhile. especially when other forms of "alternative energy" won’t make a dent for decades.

Nuclear is great on a large scale, but decentralized power is the key to a secure grid. Every new home should have SOMETHING on it to generate electricity if it uses ANY electricity.

yea, I don’t think they had a meeting about this one yet. Should probably go over a that before they come out talking about it. Biden sounds confused, because he probably doesn’t know the official stance on it for the Obama campaign.
