Which is more elitist/ridiculous $520 loafers or a $400 haircut?

August 31, 2008

I’m going to go ahead and say the loafers probably hold their value a little better (and longer) than a $400 haircut.

but did you see how pretty Edwards looked?

those shoes make McCain look like skeletor
a $400 haircut is more elitist.

i’ve paid ~50 for shoes, but i dont think i’ve ever paid more than 17 for a haircut.
I think the most elitist thing is that someone actually KNOWS what kind of loafers those are. I mean seriously, who has enough time and knowledge to see a picture of a shoe and know what the fuck it is. I couldn’t tell you what kind of shoes anyone i know wears, nor how much they cost.

somebody has to buy them or they wouldn’t exist.

I’m just shocked that someone has a shoe lexicon for a brain and could pick what exact shoe it is by seeing a blurry picture of a buckle, that looks just rectangular to me. Who ever that is, has some serious fashion knowledge stuck in their brain.

I’ve often thought the same though concerning OJ’s Bruno Magli shoes and how someone found pictures of him wearing them.

there was at least a police investigation into OJ where they would be actively looking for stuff like that.
$400 haircut for sure, but, whats the point of the thread?

I would say neither matter unless they are at the cost of the taxpayer. In fact, that kind of spending can help the economy.

An elitist would act as if their expensive items are better than the normal persons items.

An elitist would probably make a comment that the only way to travel across Arizona is by plane.

Do you think the "liberal" media will make as much of a circus about 520$ shoes as a 400$ haircut? Especially with all the talk about elitism in this election?

i dunno, did mccain wear $520 shoes? is that the point?
the only place i heard about the $400 haircut was fox news

the haircut was on the front page of the NYT (that liberal rag, right?)

and yes, McCain wears 520$ loafers (and looks like skeletor)

What about Michele Obama’s shoes? Doesn’t she wear those several hundred dollar a pair ones? Shoot, I forgot the brand. All the rich women wear them.

$520 for shoes isn’t even unreasonable. Im sure many peoples wives or women here have spent that much for shoes or a purse or both.

Manolo Blahnik? My girl has a pair as a "for me gift" after one of her Bonuses. It was about 1k. Only reason i know what they are and how much… is i accidentally kicked on side while walking by her closet. She freaked out and almost killed me.

/thread.
What’s ridiculous about either of those? As long as they’re using their own money no one should care.

their own money

I guess if you think about it, we’re paying their salaries so it’s OUR money. But come on. As long as they’re not dipping into the campaign contributions coffer, what’s the problem?
I would think the organization making the comparison was the elitist element of this, well, whatever it is.

A presidential campaign is really not that different from a police investigation when you get down to it.

It’s just a lot more thorough
I think in the grand scheme of things, it does not matter at all. It’s their money, they can spend it as they see fit. With that said, if Edwards got skewered mercilessly for a $400.00 haircut, I think it reasonable that Skelator get properly skewered for the same extravagance on shoes.

With that said, I find it ironic that Obama is being labeled as “elitist” when the wife of Senator Skelator collects fucking beach front homes. How much more elitist can you get???

$500 for a pair of shoes is very common. $400 for a haircut isn’t. Neither are any of my business, if they were bought with their own money.
definitely the $400 haircut, I pay usually $4 for a haircut, but up to $100 for a shoe, to me it’s 100x for the haircut, and just 5x for the shoe, which is nothing considering McCain’s profile
Who is anyone to judge what one does with his own money? I think having a Lambo done up in a spiderman theme is ridiculous, but you don’t see me making a thread about it.

Reality makes McCain look like skeletor.

Red soles, right?

It’s her money. But I sure would spend it on a lot of other things myself.

I’m in the minority again. No one is worried about Michelle’s spending. No wonder they walk on water. Can’t get shoes like that wet.

Uh. Yes it is. I don’t care how many rich bitches have expensive shoes, no pair of shoes is worth over $100 (and no boots over $250). I spend $65 on a pair of shoes only because I’im size 16EE and have to special order them, and they look good and always last me at least a year and a half. The only time I’ve spent more was about $150 on a pair of hiking boots (again, special order) which have lasted me a good 300 miles so far.

$150 for hiking boots? You can get some cheap ones for like $20. Are you crazy? (sarcasm)

With your logic, nobody should ever buy jewelry. Nobody should spend more than $10 on a shirt. Nobody should spend more than $10,000 on a car.

Just because there are cheaper alternatives doesn’t make spending more unreasonable. If you can afford something that you like a lot, then buy it. It is unreasonable for you to impose your cheap ideals upon others.

I understand your point of view to a degree. I don’t like it when my wife buys expensive shoes or an expensive purse, but that is her choice. I will spend money I dont need to spend on stuff I like.
